Mumbai: Tvastra by Prachi Foundation, an initiative launched by entrepreneur Sumit Govind Sharma in memory of his daughter Prachi, has partnered with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to make structured art education accessible to underprivileged children across Mumbai’s public schools.
Prachi, who discovered her love for art at the age of six, produced over 200 original works including paintings, sketches, calligraphy, and quilling. Her signature butterfly motif, symbolising freedom and vibrancy, became central to her artistic expression. She titled her collection Tvastra, derived from Sanskrit, meaning “ancient creativity.”
The Tvastra by Prachi Foundation continues her legacy by ensuring children with limited resources have the opportunity to nurture their creative potential.

Breaking Barriers in Art Education with Tvastra by Prachi Foundation
The initiative addresses significant gaps in art education caused by financial limitations and a shortage of trained teachers. Through its collaboration with BMC, the foundation has introduced structured art programs that include:
- Free art supply distribution to remove cost barriers
- Curriculum-based lessons taught by trained art educators
- Regular art classes and specialised art camps across public schools
- Community exhibitions to showcase and recognise student artwork
Speaking about the initiative, Sumit Govind Sharma, trustee of Tvastra by Prachi Foundation, said:
“Art can shape imagination and give kids a voice that goes beyond words. We want every child, no matter where they come from, to take up a brush, pencil, or colour and express themselves freely. Our goal is to transform classrooms so that art is not a privilege but a shared experience.”
The program is designed not just to teach art, but to build confidence, imagination, and resilience among students—helping them grow into empowered community members.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Artists in Mumbai
Over the coming months, Tvastra by Prachi Foundation will roll out a citywide campaign with BMC to expand access to art education, provide advanced training modules, and organise large-scale exhibitions featuring student artwork. The foundation envisions a future where every child in Mumbai can explore art without barriers—nurturing tomorrow’s artists, thinkers, and changemakers.
